About the Coon Rapids Redbirds

The Coon Rapids Redbirds are an amatuer team based out of Wintercrest Park in Coon Rapids.  They are a Class "B" team that plays in the Metro Minny League.  They play in Section 7B.  The team's first year was 2005.  In our first season in the Metro Minny League we finished with a 12-6 record and finished in 3rd place, with an overall record of 20-12.
The Redbirds were formed in the winter of 2005, mainly with the help of Nathan Johnson who helped manage the Coon Rapids Mavericks of the Park National League in Minneapolis.  The Mavericks were in the process of disbanding their team, but still had a few players that we interested in still playing amateur baseball.  Rick Johnson, the President at the time of the Metro Minny League, encouraged me to get with his son (Nathan) to merge those players with the ones that I was putting together to form the Redbirds.  This worked out good because we wanted as many Coon Rapids players as possible and that mix was very good.  Since the start of our team in 2005, we have tried to get as many of the players from the Coon Rapids High School and Coon Rapids Legion teams as the core of the Redbird amatuer team.  We of course we need to recruit players to help enhance or team to compete in the very competitive class B league in Minnesota.
Nathan is still the Business Manager of the Redbirds and long-time Baseball Man Don Bright joined us near the end of the 2005 season and is our first base coach.  Don brings his many years of amatuer baseball experience to the dugout, along with being the coach of the 2-time state high school champion Coon Rapids High School team.  These two will always be a part of Redbird Baseball history.
As of the end of the 2008 season, our fourth, we have a Co-Championship in 2007 and an outright Championship in 2008 in the Metro Minny League.  We reached our first State Class "B" State Tournament in 2008.
We are very young in our history, but Redbird Baseball plans to build tradition each and every year by making it to the Class "B" State Tournament and by putting a quality team on the field to represent our city.
